Entry Requirements
Participants will be selected from backgrounds in science, arts, humanities, law, policy, commerce, engineering, social sciences, and technology. Participants accepted for the Certificate will have qualified for the award of an approved degree or equivalent and have satisfied the medical examination prescribed by Antarctica New Zealand.
The programme will be limited to 16 participants.
Selection will be based on:
- the academic record of the applicant and/or prior relevant experience,
- a recommendation as to his or her suitability by 2 referees,
- a statement that, on completion of the Postgraduate Certificate, the applicant intends to undertake postgraduate study in a field relevant to Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, and/or contribute from his or her experience in a significant manner to the community and/or professions.
Applicants, on being offered a provisional place, will need to undertake a medical examination as prescribed by Antarctica New Zealand. This is required for the Antarctic segment of the programme. A student who does not satisfy the medical requirements will not be accepted on the course. A reasonable level of fitness is required for the Antarctic field component. The student is expected to be able to complete a four hour hike over rough terrain.
Complete the forms (typed only) and post or email, along with your supporting documents, to Gateway Antarctica by 1 August 2011.
